ive noticed some of the newer video clips from youtube have already a pretty good video quality, but when i have it grabbed and uploaded to my site the quality becomes crappier. I changed the bitrate from 800 to 2000 but there was no difference.

Is there another setting or option to add if the file is just flv upload?

Hey everyone,
I've fiddled around with convertor.php but can't find the sweet spot.
I can set it with -qmax 5 with 640x480 and get nice video. But, when trying to play the stream on a client PC, even a fast PC, in the initial 30 seconds when the buffering bar is filling up, the hard disk goes crazy (caching the big stream) and therefore the video stutters.

Youtube HD clips stream fine over an internet connection with no strain on any PC hard disk with high quality video - how do I acheive this?

Yes I can lower the bitrate and qmax but the video quality is very poor.

Please can someone help?
What settings do you all use?

Cheers,
Jon

Ok I just tried something. Because I'm only using it on a LAN, the 100Mbps was maxing out. So I changed the network card to 10Mbps and the video started smooth - the hard disk was busy caching but not going crazy enough to stutter the video.

So another question please - how can I set parameters somewhere to limit the player to 10Mbps?

Cheers,
Jon

Can anyone share a GOOD converter file with GOOD quality? I have not made any changes in 10 months and now .mov, mp4 and some other files just no longer convert.

Any help would be great.

Thanks in advance,
IJ

Hi Shawn,

I saw the videos in the links but can't match with anyone of your templates. I liked it because it has video listed beside the player when playing. I'm using free V3 template and want to purchase a jamii with citrex package. Thanks.

It varies, but is almost always smaller than the original.

For example, this video: http://www.wildcast.tv/play.php?vid=164 was a 72.1MB XviD, the FLV file created is 54.56MB

This video: http://www.wildcast.tv/play.php?vid=174 was a 90.3MB XviD, and the FLV file is 65.20MB

I think it depends more on the number of frames in the video than the source video's file size.

Also I should point out that I changed the -qmax from 3 to 4.  I updated my original post showing this.  I still recommend that you try different numbers and see which one works best for you. :)

Actually, no... there are many differences that will make it incompatible.

The one that comes in the download is good- what exactly do you need?  You know that you can change conversion settings in the siteadmin...
