URL: www.cinemutt.com
PHPmotion V3
HOST: HostUpon

I've tried everything I know to do, and you've said the videos on our site play just fine for you.  However, that's not the case for quite a few people!  I've spoken with HostUpon to see if there's anything that can be done on their end and here's what they suggested:

"You are actually on a very fast server and it's running optimal. The issue you are having is definitely with the video source itself or the format in which it is encoded. I Tested about 4 other clients on the same server with video websites and the streaming was flawless. I tested yours and it was not buffering it was just VERY choppy.

I did some research and it seems a lot of people have this problem with the bitrate and choppyness due to the actual video player being used.

If you scroll down the page you will see the topic I am referring to:

http://phpmotion.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=7517;sa=showPosts

I would speak with PHpMotion as the player may need an update. This is definitely not a server side issue and thus I do not think you need to upgrade your plan."

So, it seems that the issue has nothing to do with the server we're on, nor the bandwidth but rather the player that is being used.  Is there anything that can be done about this?

If you think the player is the issue, try upgrading to the latest JW player.

Download it from Longtailvideo.com, change the file named mediaplayer.swf to flvplayer.swf and upload it to your webroot.

OK, that seems easy enough.  I don't know if this is the problem, this is just what Host Upon suggests.  The videos embedded from YouTube play just fine and buffer really fast but the one's we've uploaded barely buffer at all and have to stop playing just to buffer some more, every few seconds.
=----------------------------

I've downloaded JW player 5 but I can't locate the mediaplayer.swf file!

Any ideas?

--------------------------

They're not calling it mediaplayer.swf now, it's now called, player-viral.swf.  I've uploaded that and renamed it.  I see a slight change in the appearance of the player but it's still buffering every few seconds.  So, that's not it either.

I've gone back to the older version of the JW Player.  The newest version is unusable since it stops playing every time it has to buffer.  According to Ethan, at JW, it's designed to do that!

I know you're tired of hearing about this buffering issue, but even the reps at host upon tell me that the videos on our site do not play well and are buffering too much.  They've also said that 4 other video-sharing web sites on the same server play very smoothly with no extra buffering.

Since I didn't have the new instructions with my purchase of the ProMotion template, I wonder if I'm missing something else too?  We really need to get this worked out, as the target date for the official roll-out of the site is January 1st, and advertising in the top 10 canine magazines starts soon after.

In an effort to solve this issue, here's how I have the settings in the admin area:

Video Bit Rate:  100K
Bit Rate:          11025
FFmpeg qmax:   1
I realize these are lower than the optimal settings but we have to try something!

Ethan, at JW, just sent me version 4.6 of their player.  I deployed it on the site and everything seems to be streaming just fine.  We'll see how it goes when someone uploads a new video.

Has this problem been resolved ?
I'm having troubles with buffering constantly when viewing the actual video page not the home page.

Videos constantly buffer then stalls  1/3 to 1/2 way into them, becomes stuck on " Buffering 2.94%"

Some videos will run
http://www.realtytube.com.au/videos/274/

Others will stop
http://www.realtytube.com.au/videos/472/

http://www.realtytube.com.au/videos/488/  ( stops 1:02 into video , stuck on 2.4% buffer)

Then some times they will just run.

These are not template related issues.

Also, I watched both videos on your site and neither buffered at any time.
