Official LongTail Thread
« on: January 13, 2009, 05:53:31 PM »
Hello PHPMotion Users, my name is Ethan and I am an AdSolution Manager at LongTail Video.

I wanted to make a topic here for users that are having specific problems with integrating our AdSolution with PHPMotion.

Specifically, I have had several of our publishers mention that they have been unable to get the our ads working after doing an upgrade from v2 to 2.1, if this is you, please post here, and I would be more than happy to assist you.

Also, I want to get a sense of how large the problem is, so even if you no longer need any help, please post to share your experience.

Please list your problems here, or email me directly at ethan [at] longtailvideo [dot] com, thank you.

Thanks,
- Ethan

Hi there Ethan

I use phpmotion and have a reasonable amount of video views.

I wrote rssmotion which is a rss generator for various systems (google,yahoo,truveo etc etc etc)

All my videos get embedded on these various websites

Google: such as http://video.google.com  .. seach for       site:bcast.co.nz  which will show all the videos
Yahoo: go to video.search.yahoo.com and search for alttv
truveo: http://www.truveo.com/channel/BcastNZ
+ other websites

I use the ltas plugin  (+ others suchd related-1 (list of related videos at end) ,yourlytics-1 (counting video views from remove websites),hd-1 (turned on but hd and SD videos are the same) for the advertising but the problem is longtailvideo never count my video views (and I don't think the clicks are counted either so I am getting no income from them I don't think)

Is there anyway to make this work (count the video videos and clicks) or am I wasting my time with putting the ads on embeded sites (90%+ of my views are from videos which are embedded and not directly on my website)

Alot of the members are starting to use the rssmotion so having adverts on them which don't make the person any $$ isn't good :-(

Also a little information about the premium ads which you are trialing at the moment. Some people (including myself) applied for the premium adverts in November but have no information back from longtailvideo if a yes /no/problems etc and I've heard some people getting a yes in a couple of days.

You ask about problems with the flash player.. Most of the problems I see people having are cross domain problems, quoting correctly the variables and differences between the flashvars on 3 and 4 (ie colour no longer has a # in front of it, and things like that)

Thanks
Craig

Great Idea, I get a lot of pm's and have posted alot of tutorials.

I am looking forward to getting that weekly consultant/support paycheck  ;D

Mostly the problem has been with phpmotion V4.1. and the admin install. Once this process is chosen you do not have the option to choose the player, or other features in the dashboard. Only one channel is allowed.

Setting up a new account and not choosing player 4.1 resolves the issue as all options are available.

I had posted a tutorial here on how to update the player and install longtail ads:

A Question about phpmotion and longtailvideo.

It has been posted quite a few times that people using phpmotion do not have to buy a licence at all for longtailvideo? Or is this for V3 only, If people use V4 that HAVE to buy a licence even with phpmotion?

Officially I can not find any information about this as on the longtailvideo website it say:

If you don’t buy a commercial license, you cannot use a JW Player on (i) a site that has ads; (ii) a corporate site; or a (iii) CMS

I bought a licence anyway for jwplayer but can you explain this to phpmotion users?
Can people set the abouttext, aboutlink with phpmotion?

This may have been answered elsewhere but I will give you official clarification on this issue. PHPmotion is authorized to distribute the JW player through the PHPmotion CMS. This means if you are using the PHPmotion with the JW player you are not at this time required to purchase a license for this use. The current release of PHPmotion uses the JW v4.2 player if subsequent versions of the player are released, these will also be incorporated into the PHPmotion CMS

Hi,

I just signed up and implemented LongTailAds into my website.

It was showing the default ad (just link to my site)

Now it doesn't for me, is the ad view limited per IP? Was this just an initial test?

Also, on LongTailAds setup its says ABD will Notify You in Real Time and then I can switch ABD to "Off"

I missed it maybe, was it in the ad it showed?

Thanks,

Hi,

I need some help as I am a bit confused.

I am using the Zendo Blue template but I am having issues with the Longtail ads from in the siteadmin panel. Whenever I click on the link under adverts, I get the following message:

Not Found

The requested URL /siteadmin/adsplus.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request
*****************************************
My site address is http://www.reggaeandhiphop.com
My questions:

1. Can I fix the above error ? ( I have already registered with Longtail)

2. I see that I am using the JW 3.16 FLV player with this template (do I need to upgrade)? If so please advise how this can be done with the Zendo template

3. Bootmaker advised me of the following... You don't have your longtail ID set up on inner_play Code:&midroll=YOUR-LONGTAIL-ID (thanks bootmaker but i'm not quite sure where in the code to place this) Please advise as I am trying to add midroll and post-roll ads.

**********************************************
I thank you in advance for the assistance as I await your response

@Jahmarley

This is your player code. It is missing all the longtail code that is needed to call your ads.
You would ad the code on templates/innerplay

Code: [Select]
         <!--start of flv player-->
   <div id="now-playing">Ludacris - Down In The Dirty (video) &nbsp;</div>
     <div id="main-player">

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://reggaeandhiphop.com//javascripts/swfobject.js"></script>

<div id="player">This text will be replaced</div>

<script type="text/javascript">
    var so = new SWFObject('http://reggaeandhiphop.com//flvplayer.swf','mpl','606','398','8');
    so.addParam('allowscriptaccess','always');
    so.addParam('allowfullscreen','true');
    so.addVariable('height','398');
    so.addVariable('width','608');
so.addVariable('bufferlength','20');
    so.addVariable('file','http://reggaeandhiphop.com//uploads/apa04sptba8m0t6f.flv');
    so.addVariable('backcolor','0x000000');
    so.addVariable('frontcolor','0x1f73c8');
    so.addVariable('lightcolor','0x73afec');
    so.addVariable('screencolor','0xe7e7e7');
    so.addVariable('logo','http://reggaeandhiphop.com//templates/images/playerlogo/logo.png');
    so.addVariable('recommendations','http://reggaeandhiphop.com//recommendations.php');
so.addVariable('image','http://reggaeandhiphop.com//uploads/thumbs/apa04sptba8m0t6f.jpg');
    so.addVariable('link','http://reggaeandhiphop.com/');
    so.addVariable('linktarget','_self');
    so.addVariable('searchbar','false');
    so.addVariable('overstretch','fit');
    so.addVariable('autostart','true');
    so.addVariable('showstop','true');
    so.addVariable('enablejs','true');
so.addParam("wmode","transparent");

    so.write('player');
</script>

            </div>      <!-- end of flv player -->

You need to add this:

Code: [Select]
so.addParam("wmode","transparent");
so.addParam("allowScriptAccess", "always");
so.addVariable("channel", "Your _ID");
so.addVariable("plugins", "ltas");

Hi Bootmaker,

Thanks for the respone again. I had to send a ticket to longtail in order to get my channel ID because when I click on the implement link as per your instructions, I don't get a code that shows me the Channel ID. I get the same page that Biggs showed you the attachment for back in December which provides a bunch of letters as the Longtail ID.

I am still awaiting a response as I only sent the request a few minutes ago but I will update you with the results (unless you have any further instructions). Thanks again for the assistance.

@Jahmarley  Hi, bro

you need configure channel With "PHPMOTION" & NOT with phpmotion 2.1 ;) in your Longtail Dashboard

later you can get your id  for implementing code in your player ;)

Regards. David.
